BIO
Jose began his artistry as a painter. As the decade turned to the 1940's, Limon's life changed drastically. He was drafted into the army. He still used his talents while in the army by choreographing and working with a composer. This opportunity gave him some inspiration for his future works!
Jose Limon also gained a lot of inspiration by drawing from his ethnic roots. His pieces have much influence from his heritage and culture.
Artist, dancer, soldier, choreographer. Limon seems to have done a bit of everything, and has done well at doing it, all while staying true to his ethnic roots. Judging from the dances mentioned in the bio, his work tends to fall into three themes: Mexican heritage, war, and religion; three things that have had major influences on his life. I think powerful and passionate are two great words to describe Limon's work. Wonderful job!
ReplyDeleteI'm always really interested in an Artist's life and how it affects their work...especially when they have experienced a significant life change like serving in World War II. These life moments change a person, change their thought process, changes their heart, and changes the way they see the world. I would really love to know more about how his experience with war affected him and his work as an artist.
